Make It or Break It

Help students who are facing unexpected financial challenges

Your help has made it possible for me to continue to excel as a student, an instructor, and a supportive spouse. I will not have to worry about choosing between groceries and gas for the car. I will not have to work on my thesis with a cloud over my head. With real-world problems constantly encroaching on student life, your donation gives me the peace of mind to focus on what I love.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences Dean’s Development Board is comprised of alumni committed to helping the school achieve its mission and pivot to meet critical needs for the future. Members support the college by teaching courses, providing career advice to students, and making financial contributions. In 2012, members of the board spearheaded the creation of a fund for students with financial hardships that may impede their completion of study at Utah State.

The Make It or Break It Fund is supported by the CHaSS Dean’s Development Board and enables Dean Joe Ward to award money to CHaSS students with critical needs, such as funding one last class or purchasing books.

“This is not a loan,” Dean Ward said. “We provide students money during emergency situations so they can stay in school.”

Applicants must be majoring in a program of study within CHaSS. Undergraduate and graduate students, who can show a substantial financial hardship, are eligible to apply. There is no set guideline for GPA, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and since the goal is to help students graduate, preference is given to juniors and seniors.
