5 Questions for a CHaSS Grad

Five Questions with Emilee Harmon

Emilee Harmon ‘22, of Layton, Utah, attended Northridge High School before moving to Logan to attend Utah State University. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science. While at Utah State, Emilee was involved in many different organizations, most notably serving as the USUSA organizations and campus diversity vice president. Currently, she lives in Washington, D.C., and works on Capitol Hill for the Office of Congressman Steny Hoyer, a two-time House majority leader who represents Maryland. Emilee loves fashion and design, iced matcha, listening to podcasts, trying new plant-based recipes, and doing anything creative.

What’s your favorite Aggie Ice Cream flavor? The only correct answer is Lemon Custard. No notes. It’s perfect.

The thing I miss most about USU is how beautiful the campus is. Getting to attend college in such a beautiful place is something I’ll never take for granted. Logan is stunning, and I miss driving through the canyon to return to school.

The one thing I wish I would have done while at USU is study abroad!

The most useful thing I learned in college was that relationships are everything. It’s important to get to know your classmates and professors not only for the community but also because you never know where people will end up.

I would tell my younger self that she belongs in every room she walks into. When I began my internship on Capitol Hill, I was very intimidated and overthought every project. I didn’t feel like I belonged for a number of reasons, but as time went on, I got more comfortable and was trusted to take on more responsibility. Trying your best and learning from your mistakes is quite literally all you can do.
