Alumni are so important to student morale

Do you remember those days as an uncertain college student?

A letter to alumni from Andrea DeHaan | Outreach Coordinator

I am reaching out to ask for a small favor from alumni who have recently engaged with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Many Utah State University students are struggling as their fears over coronavirus are compounded by uncertainty about their future. This is especially true for our seniors who were looking forward to graduation and to new opportunities beyond college. Although we do not know the severity of the economic impact we may face over the months ahead, some of you may also remember a time not so long ago when finding a job felt impossible.

Thank you to everyone who has already offered to connect with current students remotely or to review student resumes and LinkedIn profiles. I wanted to let everyone know that I send a weekly career newsletter to CHaSS students and would be grateful if you’d continue to share any opportunities, resources, etc. that might help our seniors take active steps toward securing a position in the coming months.
While I realize a lot of job postings may currently be on hold, I plan to continue the newsletter in an effort to keep student spirits up, something that has gotten more challenging with the cancellation of all remaining career events this semester.

As we look to strengthen our online community, we will be working with USU Career Services to conduct WebEx conversations with alumni that we can broadcast to students. This would mirror some of our in-person content but in shorter form. If you’d be interested in participating in short conversations about a career topic for the benefit of current students, please let me know.

Again, I realize we are all facing uncertainty right now but know that continuing to make connections and provide community for our students and alumni is especially important in this moment. If you have expert advice or are aware of job opportunities for your fellow Aggies in CHaSS, we would be grateful for this information.

Thanks for all that you do as alumni to support current CHaSS students. We hope this finds you and your families well.
