Utah State University is hosting a private, virtual screening of the new documentary film Cured. The film covers the fight against the American Psychiatric Association to get them to remove homosexuality from their manual of mental illnesses.
USU’s screening will take place from Sept. 20th to Oct. 3rd. There will be a live Q&A Sept. 29th at 4 p.m. The Q&A will feature the film’s co-directors Bennett Singer and Patrick Sammon.
“Cured provides the historical context needed for understanding the history of discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans,” said Chris Babits, a USU postdoctoral teaching fellow and the event’s organizer. “The fight against ‘homosexuality’ being included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual was a key victory in the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights. That victory might’ve happened fifty years ago. But, it still has immense relevance for today.”
Students can watch the film and register for the Q&A using the button below. The film comes out on PBS Oct. 11th and will be viewable before release until Oct. 3rd.

After an intense day of competition, the Utah State University Speech & Debate Team won the College Public Forum League National Championship. The championship took place virtually on May 4 and featured the country’s best novice college debate programs.
