CHaSS Alumni: Vernal Teacher of the Year

A 1999 Utah State University graduate in English has been named the 2018 Utah Teacher of the Year.

Aaryn (Snow) Birchell, who's taught English at Uintah High School in Vernal for eight years, receives an award of $10,000 and the opportunity to compete for national Teacher of the Year, which includes a trip to Washington D.C. to meet President Donald  Trump..

The annual contest's winner and runners-up, according to an article by the Salt Lake Tribune, are chosen from a pool of school district and regional teachers of the year by a committee comprised of Utah State Board of Education representatives, school principals and teachers..
