About Dr. John Lackstrom

John Lackstrom (1943-2016), with a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Washington, joined the faculty of Utah State University in 1970 as professor of Linguistics and Spanish and as Director of the Intensive English Language Institute.  In his work at USU, Professor Lackstrom designed and taught the Spanish for Business course and developed a master's degree in English with an emphasis in Teaching English as a Second Language.  That specialization eventually led to the Master of Second Language Teaching program, which he created jointly with Dr. Alfred Smith.  After a career of more than forty years devoted to the preparation of foreign-language teachers, Professor Lackstrom retired from Utah State University in 2011.
