Mimoun Akhiat

Biography

Born in the Rif region of Morocco, Mimoun acquired both official languages of Morocco: Amazigh and Arabic. As he attended school, he studied other languages like French and English. After realizing the importance of English as a global language, Mimoun eventually majored in English studies and got his MA in applied linguistics in 2017. Given his passion about languages and cultures, Mimoun has resolved to become a language teacher, a mission he has been involved in for a few years now. Mimoun had taught English to teenage students in Morocco before he was accepted as a Fulbright foreign language teaching assistant at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi, in 2020. The latter experience has been a life-changing one and presented many golden opportunities for him to meet different people from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Mimoun is easygoing, enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities, and loves making new friends. While he considers trying new types of food as one of the best ways to learn about others, Mimoun is also fond of cooking his own meals and making Moroccan tea. He is always thrilled to share his culture and eager to learn about others. It is Mimoun’s conviction that joining the MSLT program is going to be a cornerstone of the journey toward becoming an effective educator.
