Russ Beck

Senior Lecturer Russ Beck has recently published his essay, “On Fly Boxes, Perfect Streams & Dying Fathers,” in Fly Culture: A Fly Fishing Quarterly. In his beautiful essay, Russ braids together a meditation on fly fishing and life, honoring his father.

On the process, Russ reflects, “I came up with the title long before the essay--which never happens for me. The named file sat empty on my desktop for about two years and then I wrote the bulk of the essay in an afternoon.  Since the publication, my father has died and so it has sort of functioned as a memorial essay for him. I feel lucky to have my work in Fly Culture. It's my favorite fly-fishing publication.”
