Michael Dubon

English Department Lecturer Michael Dubon has published his essay, “Savor” in The Plentitudes. In this heartfelt piece, Michael delves into nostalgia, memory, and family.

“This piece was inspired by my childhood living on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe,” Michael reflects.

“I would have always remembered pine trees and their sap as iconic markers of the landscape; however, my sister’s sly trick of sending me and my cousin on a sap eating expedition to get us out of her hair concretized this sensory detail for me forever. To make an essay from that nostalgic memory, I then filled in the sometimes bittersweet, and often traumatic, context surrounding our lives in those times. My goal for this piece was to share this nostalgic memory of two kids so ready for adventure to take their mind off everyday troubles that they decided to go lick some trees.”
