Cameron Haney, who played cornerback for the Aggies Football Team, and Dr. Joyce Kinkead co-authored an article in Perspectives on Undergraduate Research and Mentoring (PURM). This issue features the special theme of Mentoring Student-Athletes for Undergraduate Research. The eight articles published under this special theme not only provide narratives to better understand the undergraduate research experience of student-athletes and faculty mentors, but also highlight best practices to engage and encourage student-athletes to participate in undergraduate research. Their article, “Touchdown! A Student-Athlete and Mentor Develop a Playbook for Undergraduate Research,” came about as a result of his research project, “The Writing Lives of Division I Football Players,” conducted in English 3470, in which he completed an autoethnography of student-athletes. In addition to this article, Cameron also presented at the 2019 USU Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium

This is not the first English Department duo to publish in PURM. Dr. Jennifer Sinor and Morgan Sanford Graham published an article on mentoring creative writing in a 2019 issue.

This journal focuses on mentoring undergraduate researchers; it has issued a call for its next issue of PURM on Mentoring Students in Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs).
