Lecturer Kim Hales has completed three successful years as Editor-in-Chief of USU’s Journal on Empowering Teaching Excellence (JETE). JETE is a bi-annual journal dedicated to publishing articles and book reviews from professionals in higher education with a focus on “practical, experience-based insights.” Kim says, “The journal’s mission is to benefit faculty and instructional professionals by providing a place to share timely ideas, practices, and research around teaching.”

Kim has overseen JETE's growth from 353 institutional downloads in more than ninety countries to over 3,100 institutions in 173 countries, and she and JETE’s editorial team more than tripled the reviewer list and the subscriber list during her tenure.

Associate Professor Jason Olsen will be taking over as Editor-in-Chief. Kim explains, “As a project that is funded through Statewide Campuses and with the support of the Statewide Vice-Provost, the Editor-in-Chief position is chosen from highly qualified Statewide faculty. Mike Christiansen (Vernal) worked tirelessly to help begin the journal, I (Roosevelt) succeeded him for two terms, and Jason (Eastern) will now take thereins.”

Jason has already set goals for refining book review submissions, increasing conference presentations, and continuing to foster academic rigor. He says, “So many things about higher ed teaching are in flux right now and having an academic resource to share hands-on research about pedagogy is more important now than it's ever been. JETEwill continue to publish top-tier pedagogical research that will show readers so many teaching possibilities in this challengingand excitingtime for higher ed.”
