Dr. Avery Edenfield and Dr. Jared Colton have been awarded a 2021 CCCC Technical and Scientific Communication Award for their article “Queering Tactical Technical Communication: DIY HRT,” which was co-authored with Steve Holmes (Texas Tech University). Published in Technical Communication Quarterly, Avery and Jared’s article won for the Best Article on Philosophy or Theory of Technical or Scientific Communication category.
Their award-winning article examines online DIY HRT (hormone replacement therapy) manuals composed by trans individuals in response to systemic barriers to adequate healthcare access, arguing that “the unique tactical technical communication that occurs in DIY HRT forums enables the beginnings of a theory of a queer technical communication.” CCCC is a constituent organization within the National Council of Teachers of English.
