Associate Professor Avery Edenfield and Jamal-Jared Alexander, a graduate of USU’s Technical Communication and Rhetoric PhD program, have recently won the Association for the Rhetoric of Science, Technology, and Medicine (ARSTM) Article of the Year Award for their article “Health and Wellness as Resistance: Tactical Folk Medicine,” which was published in Technical Communication Quarterly.

Of the winning article, the ARSTM committee writes: “We were particularly taken by the ways in which the article demonstrates a commitment to inclusive language, examples, and citational practices, while also pushing for ideas that are uncharacteristic and therefore absolutely necessary in our field. The article’s call to “become accomplices” for marginalized communities by understanding motivations behind “noncompliant” behaviors is the kind of call-to-action that has the potential to spark change and growth. We anticipate that scholars will invoke and extend upon your work on this front for years to come.”
