Shanan Ballam's Poetry Featured with Line Rider Press

Shanan Ballam

Senior Lecturer Shanan Ballam’s poem “Spring Hollow, Thanksgiving Day 2020” and interview were recently featured on the Line Rider Press website. Founded by USU alums Jessica Colleen McDermott and Joshua Lew McDermott, who serve as co-editors, Line Rider Press is a working-class poetry website and book publisher that seeks to showcase class-conscious, counter-cultural, and human-centered poetry and view points. They feature a new poem on their homepage every week, publish artwork, reviews/essays, interviews with poets, and release poetry books annually.

Shanan was also selected to be interviewed recently on “Chewing the Gristle,” a weekly poetry chat on Youtube. In early April of 2020, to combat pandemic's isolation, poets Al Black and Tim Conroy committed to publishing this weekly poetry chat for listeners to learn from other poets about their poetry practice. These free interviews are beneficial to poets at any stage in their career but are primarily geared toward the emerging poet. After 52 consecutive weeks of interviews with an incredibly diverse set of participants, the project is set to conclude in April 2021.
