The USU English Department has named Riley Manley the General English Student of the Year for 2022-23.

Riley returned to school at USU’s Moab campus after taking some years off,
and, while continuing to work full time as a mechanic, has consistently excelled in his
courses. The English Department committee notes, “His work routinely goes above and beyond expectations, in both depth of analysis and philosophical connections. Riley’s wide-ranging knowledge of history, classical literature, art, and philosophers ranging from Plato to Nietzsche allows him to lead classroom discussion and direct his own research in innovative and productive directions. He exemplifies the love of literature that we all share, and his communication skills, both oral and written, are superlative. The Department of English and USU’s Statewide Campuses are fortunate to have a student of Riley’s caliber.”

Riley has also expressed an equal appreciation for his experiences at USU. “Attaining an English degree represents a major personal accomplishment for me. My experiences in the English curriculum have expanded me as a person,” he reflects.

“I’ve had the opportunity to see my own struggles, joys and the breadth of my experiences reflected and amplified in the great literature of the world. I am proud of the work I’ve been able to do here. I’d like to express my sincere appreciation to the English department and all of the fantastic professors who’ve guided my path to graduation.”
