Shane Graham

Biography

Shane Graham is Professor of English. He specializes in postcolonial world literatures, especially from Africa and the Caribbean (but sometimes also teaching South Asian, Polynesian, and South American literatures), and the global Black diaspora, including African American and Black British literatures. He is especially interested in transnational approaches to literature, such as exploring the interconnections and lines of influence between Black American and African writers. And he is fascinated by questions of trauma, memory, memorialization, and bearing witness after societies have survived collective atrocities such as apartheid, civil war, and genocide. He has been privileged to serve as supervising professor or committee member for many Honors capstone projects and Master's thesis committees over the years.

Dr. Graham is available to serve on graduate committees for thesis projects concerning literature or culture from the eighteenth century to the present, and on projects concerning diaspora, race, transnational studies, trauma, memory, memorialization, bearing witness, or cultural constructions of space and place.
