Welcome to the Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) at Utah State University. Since 1972, IELI has created a supportive and engaging environment that promotes the development of linguistic and academic skills and intercultural competence necessary for international students, scholars and professionals to be successful in their academic pursuits at USU and become independent citizens and leaders in a constantly changing world. Students who finish the IELI program can go directly into their majors without taking the TOEFL or IELTS. Many students come here because Logan and the USU campus are often rated as among the safest in the country.
Is IELI For You?
IELI offers a pathway for international students who want to pursue a major at USU. When you finish the IELI program, you can go directly into your major without taking the TOEFL or IELTS exam. Our classes prepare you to be successful in your studies; students who finish our program have an average GPA of 3.0 (B grade). Because our classes are credit bearing, you can apply IELI credits towards graduation.
IELI is a place for international students, scholars, and professionals who want to improve their English. Our experienced faculty and strong curriculum will ensure that your speaking, listening, reading, and writing ability will improve considerably. Our small classes provide individual attention and the opportunity to use English in a variety of settings.
IELI provides an opportunity for English language learners who reside in the U.S. If you are a graduate of a U.S. high school and have at least a 2.5 GPA, you can study in IELI. When you finish our program, you can take classes in your major. Because IELI classes are credit bearing, you can receive financial aid while attending IELI.
Still not sure if IELI is for you? Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we would be happy to answer questions.
