Daniel Porter Marathon Run

At the culmination of his year-long research project, Daniel Porter, a student majoring in history and minoring in classics, ran 1.3 miles wearing 73 pounds of extra weight distributed across his body to replicate a set of ancient Greek armor and spear. Porter trained for a year before the run, slowly adding weight to each run and researching ancient Greek diets. His research connected him to several different groups on campus, including training with ROTC cadets and working with the kinesiology and health department at USU to monitor vital statistics. The Utah Statesman featured Porter in an article which gives more information on the project.
