Landlord Engagement/Education

Drs. Jayme Walters and Jess Lucero conducted a multi-year community-engaged research project in partnership with the Bear River Local Homeless Council and the Bear River Association of Governments among other housing services organizations. Originally intended to estimate the knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions regarding homelessness among landlords, the project evolved into a pilot program that engaged landlords in knowledge-building around the issue of homelessness. With funding from the Union Pacific Railroad Foundation, Walters and Lucero designed an interactive, online course for landlords to increase their knowledge of the context of homelessness as well as the resources and safety nets in the community. Ultimately the goal is to increase homeless diversion. The project is still underway.
