Transforming Communities Institute

Bear River Region LGBTQ+ Community Initiative

The Bear River Region LGBTQ+ Community Initiative is facilitated by TCI in partnership with the Logan Pride Foundation and other areas. The Initiative seeks to address LGBTQ+ health equity and inclusion issues in the Bear River region of northern Utah, which includes Box Elder, Cache, and Rich counties. The Initiative uses a Framework for Collaborative Community Action on Health as a guide for community-led change processes focused on increasing capacity through coalition building and community action planning.
This work is supported by recent community needs assessment research facilitated by TCI on health and social support services available to LGBTQ+ youth and families in Box Elder County. The Initiative aims to build a regional coalition by May 2024 that includes LGBTQ+ community members, parents and caregivers of LGBTQ+ youth, Pride centers, physical and mental healthcare providers, educators, community organizations, and Utah State University centers. In the future, coalition members will work together to define goals, develop a collaborative community action plan, and implement evidence-based solutions to improve LGBTQ+ community health and well-being across the Bear River region.
