Peer Pressure

Welcome to the Utah Youth Know Peer Pressure session plan. In this session, students will become familiar with the differences between positive peer pressure and negative peer pressure and will be encouraged to use positive peer pressure to encourage and support healthy behaviors among their peers. Negative peer pressure can be tricky to avoid, so students will be given strategies they can implement into various circumstances to avoid negative peer pressure. Finally, this session highlights the ways in which media may inaccurately portray sexual health and sexual behavior. Students will learn to analyze and question these portrayals, developing a more balanced understanding of healthy relationships and sexual behaviors. We recognize that while many students have previously participated in discussions and lessons on peer pressure, we hope that this session can offer additional context and insight into the power youth hold when they can become a positive peer influencer.

Learning Objectives: By the end of this session, students will be equipped to identify and implement positive peer influences, resist negative pressure, and critically assess media messages related to sexual health and relationships. They will be empowered to make informed decisions and contribute positively to their peer groups.
