Utah College Sexual Behavior Survey


This project is a two-year project and thus will be described by year.” The intention of this project was to assess retrospective sexual behaviors of Utah youth.

Fall 2021: The research group created and piloted a valid, reliable, and inclusive sexual behavior survey among Utah State University students between the ages of 18-21 that attended high school in Utah. This year’s survey was dedicated to developing and testing the survey to be inclusive of the LGBTQIA+ population.

Fall 2022: After successful completion of the pilot survey, some suggestions were made to improve the survey for the second year of the study. In response, several questions about community and family sex education were added, while other items, such as a number of risk-taking behavior questions. The second year of the study is devoted to utilizing the inclusive, valid, and reliable retrospective sexual behavior measures tested in the pilot survey. The purpose of the second year’s study is to examine the sexual behaviors of youth in Utah to provide data for evidence-based programming across the state. To accomplish this, the research team will be disseminating the updated Utah College Sexual Behavior Survey to young adults between the ages of 18-21 who attended high school in Utah by asking four-year institutions in Utah to distribute the survey in their respective schools.
