Racial and Gender Bias in Utah's Legal Profession

Old MainUSU's Old Main, home of the Sociology department

Five members of the Sociology Program --Drs. Marisela Martinez-Cola and Christy Glass, PhD students Rana Abulbasal and Rachael Gulbrandsen and Undergraduate Researcher/Peak Fellow, Brook Hutchinson -- recently completed a study of racial and gender bias in Utah's legal profession.

The study included a statewide survey of members of the Utah State Bar as well as nearly fifty in-depth interviews with lawyers and judges across the state. The final report was submitted to Women Lawyers of Utah and the Utah Bar and will serve as the basis for statewide outreach, programming and continuing education on issues of inclusion and equity in law.
