Sociology PhD student creates resources for Latinx community during COVID-19 pandemic
Claudia Méndez Wright
PhD student and former business faculty Claudia Méndez Wright has been closely involved in efforts to aid the Latinx community in navigating COVID-19.
Her leadership in creating the Facebook group "Latinos Unidos Covid-19 Cache Valley" has resulted in the page being recognized as a center for information and educational material in Spanish for the Latinx community across the state. Her marketing and sociology background came in handy to create a community needs assessment survey to identify the most pressing needs. She has organized and personally delivered donations to families in need and organizations, as well as participated in numerous community events to deliver food and masks to the community. Her fundraising and PR efforts have resulted in large donations in the form of money and goods. With the unconditional support of Marina Bernal (CHASS faculty) and Dr. Celina Wille (USU Extension) her efforts will continue to have more reach. Her aim is to continue building bridges between the diverse communities of Cache Valley especially in these times in which we need unity more than division.
