Biography
Dr. Pechenkina's research investigates bargaining obstacles to peace processes. She uses statistical analysis, survey experiments, and computational modeling to understand how peace emerges out of war and why it succeeds or fails. Her research projects include (1) civilian agency in civil wars and insurgencies, including civilian recruitment and civilians' attributions of blame; (2) belligerents' initiation of peace processes in civil wars; (3) third-party manipulation of peace duration through subsidies and coercive mediation. At USU, Dr. Pechenkina teaches Introduction to Political Analysis, Ethnic Conflict and Cooperation, International Relations Seminar (graduate), and International Security.
