Biography
Michelle Rossi, Ph.D., is a Brazilian who has been residing in the United States since 2018. She earned her Ph.D. in Media Research and Practice (Journalism) from the University of Colorado-Boulder in the Spring of 2023. Dr. Rossi's research centers around the concept of social justice and its connection to the news media. Her dissertation, titled "The Politics of Food: How is Mainstream News Content Constructed on Farmed Animals?" delves into the examination of animals as marginalized groups within news coverage. She obtained her master's and bachelor's degrees from the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil. Her master's research focused on the utilization of news sources in the coverage of indigenous communities. Her research interests also encompass media economics, feminist studies, and critical animal and media studies. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the International Journal of Communication and Newspaper Research Journal. Dr. Rossi is passionate about academic teaching, viewing it as both an enjoyable task and a life mission. With 17 years of experience as a journalist and PR professional, she also brings a wealth of practical knowledge to her academic pursuits. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to music, gardening, spending time with family, friends, and her dogs, as well as volunteering at animal shelters.
