Dr. Aggrey Willis Otieno is a Communication for Social Change scholar with a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Scripps College of Communication, Ohio University - USA. He has over 19 years of resourceful work experience championing social change in Africa, Latin America and the USA, especially in child protection, promotion of social justice, and health. He is currently an assistant professor at the department of Journalism and Communication. Aggrey has worked and consulted for international development organizations in empowering resource-constrained communities while promoting Children and Human Rights, good governance, and health promotion. His professional engagements and community service have won several international awards. For example, the 2022 IFP Alumni research award, the 2016 Excellence in Global Leadership Award; 2013 African Children Hero award, the 2012-2014 Rolex Laureate, and the 2009-2011 Ford Foundation International Fellowship award among others. Aggrey uses big data and analytics to understand the effects of new media on society and organizations. Specifically, his academic research endeavors are on user engagement in online environments and how user-generated content influences change in attitude, opinions, perceptions, and behavior in child protection, health, and civic activism. As a result, Aggrey has experience in using data-driven insights to improve user experiences and communication in online settings. He specializes in social media analytics, as well as quantitative and qualitative research methods, design, and analysis.
