Biography
As a communication scholar, Meyara is interested in postcolonial theory and rhetoric. From a postcolonial perspective, Meyara explores how immigrant communities navigate/negotiate their identities in their transnational spaces of migration. His work has, thus far, focused on the Mauritanian immigrant community in the Greater Cincinnati area, examining how members of this community negotiate their problematic shared past in their efforts to become more unified. From a rhetorical and postcolonial perspective, Meyara is interested in xenophobia in Western public discourses, focusing on how anti-immigrant discourses perpetuate an orientalist tradition that views them as the Other.
