Biography

Philip Barlow was the Leonard Arrington Chair of Mormon History & Culture. In addition to Mormonism, his teaching engaged religion and human suffering, religion and the concept of “time,” and American religious history. His publications have contemplated such matters as religion and region (the New Historical Atlas of Religion in America), scripture (Mormons and the Bible) and Mormonism’s multiple facets (Oxford Handbook of Mormonism, co-edited with Terryl Givens). He has also served as President of the Mormon History Association, and he currently serves as the associate director at Brigham Young University’s Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship.
