“[Poetry is] based in a craving to get … into the larger, wilder place of things as they are becoming” — “The Poet as Anti-Specialist”
Soon a new campus events space will stand on the site where award-winning poet May Swenson’s house once stood. The exterior of the new Swenson House will pay homage to the history and original architectural design of the classic bungalow where Swenson wrote her first poems, while the reimagined light-filled interior will include a specialty café, reading nooks, and an events space where audiences can enjoy a variety of public programing, including readings led by creative writers, book discussions by scholars in the humanities, and music by local artists. The Swenson House will honor the legacy of May and her family while also fostering a new generation of writers, thinkers, and artists.
