The Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research (UCUR) and the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) provide opportunities for undergraduate researchers to present their research, network with other undergraduate researchers, and connect with mentors. CHaSS strongly encourages students to pursue these opportunities.
CHaSS majors interested in presenting at UCUR or NCUR should locate a faculty mentor who can provide them assistance in developing a research agenda, questions, and an abstract.
Good research mentors include instructors with whom you’ve taken an upper division course. Some instructors build UCUR and NCUR into their course syllabi or may be associated with the USU Honors Program or individual major honors societies such as Sigma Tau Delta (English) and Phi Alpha Theta (History).
In order to help reduce the financial barriers associated with attending UCUR and NCUR, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHaSS) provides matching funding to the USU Office of Research, Departmental, and/or the Honors Program funding on a limited and competitive basis. The process to apply for funding is below, along with eligibility and due dates.
Process to Apply:
- Students should first seek funding from the USU Office of Research.
- Students should then seek funding from their department head (the Department Head for your major in CHaSS)
- Apply for funding by the due date from CHaSS using this form.
Deadlines
- Students must apply for UCUR funding from CHaSS by: Friday, December 13 at 11:59PM
- Students must apply for NCUR funding from CHaSS by: Tuesday, January 21 at 11:59PM

Students will be notified on their A#@usu.edu email of their status one week after the above deadlines. Students are encouraged to turn in applications as early as possible to allow for quick decisions
