Jeremy Ricketts Appointed Associate Director of Concurrent Enrollment

English Department Lecturer Jeremy Ricketts has been appointed Associate Director of Concurrent Enrollment (CE) for the university. The position is completely new at USU, and it involves assisting the Director of Concurrent Enrollment Jessica Rivera-Mueller in ensuring syllabi align with academic standards, overseeing the development of the Teaching Partnership Program, collaborating with high school CE educators and university faculty, and implementing professional development workshops. “In my role as Associate Director,” Jeremy notes, “I am committed to upholding our mentoring values while serving as a facilitator who guides and supports high school English teachers in navigating the challenges and opportunities of our shared profession.”

Jeremy earned his Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of New Mexico. There, his interest in CE was piqued, and it continued when he worked with Bethel University to set up a CE program at a local high school. Through that experience, he learned about reciprocal mentoring – high school teachers and university departments sharing insights and approaches to teaching English.

Jeremy says: “I am excited about how reciprocal mentorship serves as a foundation for growth and innovation in our Concurrent Enrollment program. I see our high school teaching partners as equals who bring valuable knowledge and experience that can enhance our program. By fostering a culture of mutual respect, we all work together to create a collaborative environment where university faculty and high school teachers learn from each other. This dynamic exchange of ideas enriches our practices and helps us continually evolve to meet our students' needs more effectively.”

After coming to the university during the pandemic, Jeremy found his place at the Eastern campus. “My experience at USU has been deeply rewarding, thanks to the incredible community here,” Jeremy reflects. “As a lecturer at the Eastern campus, I am well-positioned to support our CE colleagues throughout this part of Utah while also maintaining a presence in Logan. I am excited to contribute to the program as Associate Director by combining practical experience, informed scholarship, and active collaboration. USU’s CE program is truly a gold standard, and I am grateful to be a part of it.”
