Biography

Professor Steve Siporin is a folklorist who held joint appointments in English and History (1986-2016). He taught a wide variety of folklore classes, including Jewish Folklore and Folklore and Religion. He is the author of American Folk Masters: The National Heritage Fellows and co-editor of Worldviews and the American West: The Life of the Place Itself. His translation of Augusto Segre's Stories of Jewish Life: Casale Monferrato-Rome-Jerusalem, 1876-1985, from the Italian, has been part of his research agenda during retirement as has The Befana is Returning: The Story of a Tuscan Festival, published in 2022 by University of Wisconsin Press.
