Build a Team for Safe Communities

Utah State University's Correctional Leadership Development program is a four-month initiative designed to strengthen the leadership skills of correctional management personnel. The program consists of one-week classroom sessions each month, following a progressive approach that builds on key leadership concepts. UDC employees and officers receive 18 units upon completion of the program.

Participants start with the basics, such as leadership philosophy and organizational culture, laying the foundation for effective leadership. As the program progresses, it covers more advanced topics, including executive leadership and specialized skills. The curriculum includes practical exercises, like interactive discussions and real-world scenarios, to help participants apply what they learn. The program also emphasizes ethical leadership, employee development, media skills, and managing critical incidents, ensuring a well-rounded preparation for correctional leaders.
