Environmental advocacy is key to motivating citizen engagement to addres the wide array of environmental issues with which the world is currently grappling. Students will develop a deep understanding of contemporary social movements, environmental issues, and the role of technology while building interdisciplinary connections, engaging with local organizations, and preparing for diverse career opportunities.
This certificate is open to any undergraduate student at USU.
Career Application
The Environmental Advocacy certificate helps students pursuing degrees in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities to acquire essential skills for impactful advocacy across non-profit, government, and for-profit sectors. Job opportunities await in the areas of communications & engagement, outreach, policy management, sustainability, and more.

- Increased understanding of different types of organizations and the tactics they utilize for addressing social issues in local, national, and international contexts
- Awareness of the role of organizations, activism, and protest in creating social change
- Comprehension of the ways in which technology has impacted contemporary social movements
- Increased knowledge of contemporary environmental issues
- Understanding of the activies, legal and political contexts, organizational structures, challeges, and opportunities of working with nonprofit organizations in suupport of environmental goals
